Lights…Camera…Action…!!! Tenerife has once again been selected as a great place to film a Hollywood Blockbuster. Fast and Furious 6 was chosen some months ago and filming of cars in action has been taking place on the unopened part of the TF1 in the area of Los Olivos.
Residents and tourist alike have been waiting on top of the bridges and along the top of the motorway to see the action.
It is said that the film, due to be released at the end of May 2013, is based more on a bank robbery than the normal car chases and races.
There have even been some tanks seen on the motorway…
…along with a video which can be seen showing a bridge being blown apart as cars drive under it…much to the delight of onlookers.
Filming also took place in Glasgow, Scotland too, where a very odd looking car was filmed by a passer-by.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that Tenerife has been used as the setting for some of Hollywood’s finest, most recently “Wrath of the Titans” (Clash of the Titans 2) and the prequel “Clash of the Titans” have both been filmed here.
Years ago, “Planet of the Apes” was filmed in the moonscape type volcanic fields in the Teide National Park. It is said that some of “Barbarella” was also filmed here along with certain scenes from the 3rd episode of Star Wars “Revenge of the Sith“, although there is some debate over this.
This website talks about the films that have been shot here and also mentions that some car TV adverts and promotional videos have been filmed here too.
With tax savings, supposedly somewhere in the region of $20,000,000 for “Fast & Furious 6” along with glorious weather almost guaranteed, making a film in Tenerife is really a sensible option.
If you see the film, you will know that Fast and Furious 6 filmed in Tenerife.
