“It would be a perfect culmination of the Heliodoro Centenary,” said the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife – The project proposed by the only two world football champions born in the Canary Islands (Pedro Rodríguez and David Silva) has generated enormous excitement in the islands, as demonstrated by the reactions on all social media platforms.

Who Would Play?

Pedro and Silva intend to bring in several Canarian and world legends. It would be in a format that has been repeated numerous times with other players: Friends of Pedro versus Friends of Silva. Two teams would feature teammates of these two great icons of Canarian football, complemented by talented island players scattered around the world.

On What Date?

The Pedro Foundation, organizer of the ambitious event, has submitted an unofficial request to the Island Council to use the Heliodoro Stadium in June of next year. Since its use is blocked while CD Tenerife is in official competition, which is still unknown, nor will it have to play in the playoffs, the dates that are being targeted are June 26 or 27, 2026.

Tickets

It’s too early to set fees for access to a legendary match that no one will want to miss. But it’s already certain they will be beneficial, as the Pedro Foundation spokesperson announced on SER radio.

Heliodoro Centenary

The event would serve as a “grand finale” to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Heliodoro Rodríguez, said the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, on Radio Club Tenerife.

To date, only a few political leaders, such as Dávila herself, Councilor Yolanda Moliné, and the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, were aware of the scope and magnitude of the plan.

A Meeting of Champions

In a recent interview on SER, Pedro stated that a major reunion between the world champions is planned for 2026 in South Africa. Well, some of them could be meeting, much later, on the Heliodoro pitch.

The predictions are open. Who will come? Iniesta, Puyol, and Xavi? Iker Casillas? There’s no finalized list yet, but it’s known that Pedro and Silva want to include many Canarian players. The list of islanders is long, but in some specific cases, like Ayoze Pérez’s, it will depend on their presence at the World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
