This past week has been a cause for concern for everyone here in Tenerife. The island pretty much came to a standstill on Wednesday, just a few brave souls made it outside and got to work.

The rain started at about 8am, so although heavy, none of the flooding was apparent at this time – the journey in to work, but by 10.30 – 11, things were hotting up.
Emergency services were on red alert but in certain circumstances things were getting out of hand.
One of the most iconic pictures, for me anyway, will be the floating car at Guaza roundabout as seen above, the driver of which was a woman who was 8 months pregnant.
This is part of the motorway that leads down to the Guaza roundabout, all of this water ended up there from the mountains bringing with it silt, rubble, stones, rocks and cactuses etc.
This is the lower end of the roundabout just this morning. The roundabout is back open and running as normal, but there were plenty of workers working well into the night during this week making it usable again.
Lightning and thunder obviously played its part in proceedings. There were 4.000 lightning strikes reported in Tenerife from 0800 hrs to 1300 hrs on the 11th December. This is one over Los Cristianos.
Los Cristianos was hit badly once again. This is the water running into the Sunday Market.
And this was Los Cristianos Market being cleaned up yesterday afternoon. Thanks to the hard work of the market owners workforce and the local council workers, the market was back open today…albeit still a little damp and dusty in parts.
This is the underground carp park at the bottom of the slope from the church square. They were still pumping this out 2 days later on Friday.
So, as I said on my Facebook page, although there is loads to love about Tenerife…one thing is not the roads when the heavy rains come.
